What do I modify to restore the original settings?

Post by bhs67 »

I installed Rainmeter a few years ago. A few days ago I upgraded to Win11. Installed Rainmeter_v4.5.17.exe. Many things have changed.

This is what I did to place the time and weather (https://snipboard.io/VSLsjC.jpg) in the bottom left corner of my display.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to Rainmeter => right click on title => Manage skin
... Show hidden icons (bottom left) to see Rainmeter (rain drop) => Manage Rainmeter

To change the date --- right click temperature > Manage Skin > Elegant Clock > LightClock.ini > Coordinates

Edit Settings ... or ... right click > Edit
... WeatherComJSONVariables.inc > Edit
... ... APIKey=21d8a80b3d6b444998a80b3d6b1449d3
... ... Latitude=46.892645
... ... Longitude=-100.833957
... MiniWeather > Just the Text.ini > Edit
... Temp size => MeasureName=MeasureWeatherCurrentTemp > InlineSetting3=Size | (#Scale#*60)
... ... Refresh
... Condition size => MeasureName=MeasureWeatherCurrentDesc > InlineSetting3=Size | (#Scale#*40)
... ... Refresh

--- illustro
--- --- Welcome => Welcome.ini => Unload
--- --- System => System.ini => Unload
--- --- Clock => Clock.inin => Unload
--- --- DIsk => 2 Disks.inin=> Unload

Weather
DeviantArt

MiniWeather => Hugh Mungus
Right-click the skin to show the context menu. Select "Custom skin actions."
=> "Edit weather variables" => change latitude=46.892645 and longitude=-100.833957
=> "Edit skin variables" => Change Scale=1.0 to Scale 0.5
=> replace Hugh Mungus with Just the Text

Clock
Go to VisualSkins.com => Rainmeter Skins
--- --- Elegant Clock Rainmeter Skin => Download => Install ................................. Unload and Load to move
--- --- --- raindrop => Elegant Clock => LightClock.ini => Load
Edit [MeasureTime] => ... => Format =%#I:%M
Edit[MeterTime] => ... => FontSize = 74 => change to 40
Edit [MeasureDate] => ... => Format =% A, % d % B % Y => change to Format=%a, %d %b %Y
Edit [MeterDate] => ... => Y = 107r => change to Y = 57r
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What Rainmeter settings are needed to produce the same result as before? Thanks!

Your question has no answer, in my opinion, because we don't know:
  • What skin(s) are you using.
  • What those posted elements are? They seem to be some variables of a skin, but which skin? And what those dots are meaning?
  • What "same result as before" does mean? What those results were?
So, for me so far is not really clear what would you like to achieve. A few details would be needed.

In Rainmeter, not that many things changed, at least compared to the last time you asked the exact same question(s):
https://forum.rainmeter.net/viewtopic.php?t=39742
https://forum.rainmeter.net/viewtopic.php?t=37373
https://forum.rainmeter.net/viewtopic.php?t=37404

However, in the Elegant Clock and MiniWeather skins (whose links are absent), some things might have changed, though I doubt that such changes were so massive that the detailed instructions by eclectic-tech two or three years ago are not still valid for you to achieve what you want (which is unclear, to be honest, since you don't specify what kind of "settings" you want restored, and compared to what kind of desired effects in these skins).

EDIT: Yup, balala mentioned pretty much the same as I did. :D

Thanks for the responses! Excellent memories! I did not recall posting these questions.

Ignoring my previous post, what simple sequence would place the time and weather (https://snipboard.io/VSLsjC.jpg) in the bottom left corner of my display.

Thanks!

1. Move your mouse pointer over the skin.
2. Press the left mouse button down and hold it.
3. Drag the skin to the bottom left corner of your display
4. Release the mouse button.

Based on your original post and the skin name:
bhs67 wrote: April 10th, 2024, 11:36 am Elegant Clock [...] LightClock.ini [...]
[MeasureTime] [...]
[MeterTime] [...]
[MeasureDate] [...]
[MeterDate]
all the date and time sections are in the Elegant Clock skin.

Two questions.

1) When I open Manage Rainmeter and select illistro > Clock > Clock.ini ... I do not see Elegant Clock [...] LightClock.ini [...]?

2) I discovered [Rainmeter.ini, Rainmeter.data, Rainmeter.stats, and Rainmeter.exe] under the folder Windows.old\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter. Do these contain my original settings? If so, how do I restore them?

1) Your own original post referred to the Elegant Clock skin, since you were hiding all Illustro skins, so I assume you installed and loaded it, in which case you will see it in the Manage Rainmeter window or in the right click context menu.

2) The Rainmeter.ini file is where the "current" arrangement / layout of skins on your screen was stored at the time of your last use of that Windows.old installation:
https://docs.rainmeter.net/manual/settings/
If you're absolutely sure that it's those settings you want to restore (assuming the same installed skins and the same screen resolution), then you could quit Rainmeter, copy paste that file from the said location to C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter (i.e. where that layout is stored now, in the new Windows installation), then run Rainmeter again to see if it works.

That being said, you still didn't explain what you meant by "your original settings". The Rainmeter.ini file does indeed contain them, just not sure this is what you were referring to.

Yincognito,

1) Sorry for the confusion. The first post was a list of what I did a few years ago. I changed nothing with the new version of Rainmeter as many things have changed.

2) These are a contents of C:\Windows.old\Users\xxxzzz\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\Rainmeter.ini:

I modified C:\Windows.old\Users\xxxzzz\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\\Rainmeter.ini
from:
SkinPath=C:\Users\xxxzzz\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\
to:
SkinPath=C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\

I copied
C:\Windows.old\Users\xxxzzz\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins folder
to:
C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins folder

I also copied Rainmeter.ini
from:
C:\Windows.old\Users\xxxzzz\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\
to:
C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\

When I select the Rainmeter icon in the bottom right corner of Win11, Manage Rainmeter appears on the screen. It does display the old contents. Unfortunately it does not display the time, etc. on the screen.

Manage Rainmeter Reresh All does not either.

I continue to see DISKS, SYSTEM, and WELCOME TO RAINMETER displayed on the screen. Perhaps these images are overriding my clock image?
